Frequently asked questions

How do I keep my DIPTANK pool water clean?

When it comes to the ice baths, most people tend to keep the water in the tank for 1-2 weeks and replenish regularly. Water can be emptied from the drain plug, positioned low on the size of the tank.

As for the larger Diptank pools, you may wish to maintain the same water throughout the summer.
1. Install a filter pump to circulate the water and remove debris. There are many filter pumps on the market, just make sure your pump is suitable for the size pool you are purchasing. Have the pump running for 3+ hours a day.

2. Check the pH of your stock tank pool water regularly, as you would a traditional pool. Be aware that chlorine will encourage galvanised steel to corrode, so purchase a floating chlorine dispenser, which slowly disperses the chlorine into the water. Use 1-2 chlorine tabs per week during the busy months.

3. A skimmer net is ideal for scooping out bugs and leaves.

There is a fantastic DIY Guide from the guys at Stock Tank Pools on YouTube.

HOw long should the pump run for?

3/4 hours a day during peak season - only use the pump when your Diptank pool is not in use.

will you drill the holes for the pump?

We will drill an inlet and outlet hole for you on request - add this info at Checkout ‘notes or send us an email referencing your order number’. Alternatively, you can drill the holes yourself. Measure and mark the holes (ensuring the hole diameter will sit flat, away from the ridges on the pool). Drill the 2 holes using a 70mm arbor or hole saw. Intake hole lower and outlet hole higher.

What is the average lifespan of a DIPTANK?

Stock Tanks are traditionally used in the United States for agriculture, as animal water troughs. This way they usually last over 20 years.
By adding pool chemicals to the water, this may have an effect on the surface of the galvanised steel. Over time the interior may age/patina.

which pump should I buy?

Should I paint my DIPTANK?

Personally, we love the look of the galvanised steel. There is a charm and quality to the metal, as well as the fact that it is designed to live outdoors in all weather. However, we understand that some of you may enjoy a spot of DIY and may even have a colour ‘theme’ which you’d like to incorporate.
There are many very informative videos on YouTube which give step by step guides for DIY painting - the key is prep and primer!

Alternatively, we offer custom painted tanks, professionally sprayed at our local paint shop. Please allow an additional 2-3 weeks to the lead time for this service.

Can I bury the Stock Tank POOL?

Installing the pool below ground may shorten the life of your Diptank. The potential acidity of the soil can react with the metal. Consider lining the hole with a pond liner to minimise contact with the soil. Many have successfully sunk their pools into decking, which works brilliantly and hides the pump setup too!

Alternatively, we are now stocking Poly tanks which are made from UV resistant 100 percent high density virgin polyethylene so tanks cannot rust.

Can I turn MY DIPTANK into a hot tub?

Many of our customers have made their Diptank into a wood-fired hot tank using a stainless steel coil. The friendly team at Firetree Metalworks have supplied custom coils to our customers.

We have also developed a stainless steel chiminea which can heat our 6ft oval tanks very effectively.

HOW DO I best CARE FOR MY DIPTANK?

We will send you our care information sheet prior to delivery which highlights ways in which you can best take care of your Diptank.
Please do not store your Diptank upside down, rain water can get trapped underneath the top rim of the Diptank and cause the steel pipe, which makes up the crush-proof rim, to rust.
There are a couple of things which may affect the appearance of your tank inside, such as hard water, too much chlorine or stagnant water & debris. If you have any concerns, please get in touch.
